Three Colorado Springs schools are in the state’s top 20 high schools, according to new U.S. News & World Report rankings.

The Vanguard School ranked third in Colorado and 176th nationwide; the Classical Academy High School ranked 19th in the state and 936th nationally; and Cheyenne Mountain High School was 20th in Colorado and 946th nationally.

Nearby Palmer Ridge High School, in Monument, ranked 18th in the state and 857th nationally.

The Vanguard School and Cheyenne Mountain High School are in Cheyenne Mountain School District 12, which the Colorado Department of Education last year named the state’s No. 1 school district in its annual performance rankings.

U.S. News & World Report ranked 475 Colorado schools based on college readiness (proportion of 12th graders who took and passed at least one advanced placement or international baccalaureate exam); math and reading proficiency; math and reading performance; underserved student performance; college curriculum breadth; and graduation rate. Nationwide, more than 17,000 schools were ranked.

The Vanguard School, a charter school in D-12, has an AP participation rate of 79 percent, according to U.S. News & World Report. The total minority enrollment is 38 percent and the graduation rate is 98 percent.

The Vanguard School also ranked 45th nationwide among charter high schools and 177th nationally among STEM high schools.

Palmer Ridge High School, in Lewis-Palmer School District 38, has an AP participation rate of 68 percent. Palmer Ridge’s total minority enrollment is 18 percent and the graduation rate is 97 percent.

The Classical Academy High school, a charter school in Academy School District 20, has an AP participation rate of 62 percent. The total minority enrollment is 16 percent and the graduation rate is 99 percent. Among charter schools, it ranked 171st nationally.

Cheyenne Mountain High School has an AP participation rate of 52 percent, according to the rankings. The total minority enrollment is 24 percent and the graduation rate is 96 percent. CMHS ranked 66th nationally among STEM high schools.
