SCHEELS, an employee-owned all sports retailer, is planning to open its second Colorado location in Colorado Springs in April 2021.

The retailer is planned for Interquest Marketplace near the Great Wolf Lodge, the Summit Entertainment Center and the Hollywood Theater, and is planned at 220,000 square feet.

“Similar to the Johnstown location, the new Colorado Springs SCHEELS will be home to entertainment attractions, specialty shops and boutiques with the best brand names under one roof,” a SCHEELS-issued news release said. “This includes 75 specialty shops staffed by trained experts who focus on their passions. The one-of-a-kind retail adventure will attract sports enthusiasts, outdoor explorers and shoppers seeking a wide variety of fashion, footwear and home goods.”

The Colorado Springs SCHEELS, according to the release, will also include family-friendly attractions, such as a 65-foot operating Ferris Wheel, a 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium with more than 600 fish, a wildlife mountain, and a candy shop. There will also be interactive arcade games and sports simulators and a café.

“With the success of our store in Johnstown, Colorado, we are thrilled to bring a second store to the Colorado market and specifically to Colorado Springs,” SCHEELS CEO Steve M. Scheel said in the release. “We are excited to be part of the Interquest Marketplace and want to thank Mayor [John] Suthers, The [Colorado Springs] City Council, the City of Colorado Springs, [Nor’Wood Development Group PresidentChris Jenkins, and the team at Nor’Wood Development for help bringing this project to life. We look forward to working with them throughout the building process, as we become a new partner in the Colorado Springs community.”

The Colorado Springs SCHEELS will be the company’s 29th location, with 27 existing stores and 2 scheduled to open in 2020. A new store in Eden Prairie, Minn., replacing a smaller store, and a new market in The Colony, Texas. The Colorado Springs store will employ more than 350 associates, all employee owners, who look forward to bringing their expertise and enthusiasm to Colorado Springs.
