You may notice more foreign miniature vehicles cruising around town in the next few months.
At the end of September, Perkins Motor Company will be the first dealership in Colorado Springs to start selling Fiats in southern Colorado.
The company was approved last month to bring the compact cars to Colorado Springs after a six-year process.
“Because Fiat requires specific zoning for the region, once [zoning] changes were made, our application was processed,” said Crystal Johnston, marketing director for the dealership.
Fiat dealers exist in Denver but Perkins will be the only dealership in Colorado Springs and near Monument and Pueblo allowed to sell the foreign models.
“Fiats get amazing gas mileage, some get 40 miles to the gallon [on the highway] and are very comparable to the Mini Cooper,” Johnston said. “They’re very customizable, some will offer four-wheel drive and can seat up to five passengers.”
The cheapest model will start at $16,995.
“They have a very sleek, European look,” she said. “It’s exciting to be the first to introduce a European-style car in the Colorado Springs atmosphere.”
Perkins Motors will also have a full service department for Fiat vehicles and provide parts made exclusively for the brand.
Models that will be on the lot: Fiat 500x, 500, 500c, Abarth and 500L; the 124 Spider will be available in 2017.
Fiat is the largest car manufacturer in Italy and has been creating vehicles since the end of the 19th century.
“We are excited to be the first dealership in Colorado Springs to offer customers the chance to own a new Fiat,” Perkins Motors President David Perkins said in a news release. “We anticipate many interested consumers and our team is working very hard to be ready to support our customers as they look to purchase a new Fiat starting this month.”
