Local Dairy Queens have partnered with the Children’s Miracle Network today for its annual Miracle Treat Day, to raise money for programs at Children’s Hospital Colorado-Colorado Springs and expansion of the region’s first freestanding pediatric hospital.
All day at participating locations, $1 from every blizzard sold will be donated toward the care of Colorado Springs children suffering from traumatic injuries and disease, and development of a 280,000 square-foot facility at the Memorial North campus by 2018.
“All funds raised locally stay local, and will help support the expansion of the pediatric health system into southern Colorado and build out of the region’s first comprehensive children’s hospital,” said Amy Triandiflou, spokesperson for the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation.
Miracle Treat Day has been benefiting Children’s Hospital Colorado for over a decade; more than $2,000 was raised in Colorado Springs last year.
“We also look to the event as a way to raise awareness that a new children’s hospital is coming,” Triandiflou said. “It will transform children’s health in southern Colorado, bringing pediatric experts to town that deliver miracles and inspire breakthroughs, as well as have a significant impact on our regional economy.”
The estimated $110 million expansion will break ground in September at N. Union Blvd. and Briargate Parkway and will include a pediatric only emergency department, pediatric inpatient beds, a neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care unit and pediatric operating room.
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is a charity that raises funds to help save and improve the lives of over 10 million kids treated at 170 children’s hospitals across North America, according to its website.
“Every minute, 62 children enter a CMN Hospital for treatment. That’s a staggering statistic,” John Gainor, president and CEO of International Dairy Queen, Inc., stated in a press release. “When you visit these hospitals and meet with the kids and their families, you can’t help but be moved by their stories and appreciate the doctors and nurses who care for them. Miracle Treat Day helps raise awareness and funds for these kids and their families in our local communities.”
