Representatives from economic development organizations across the state, elected officials and local business leaders will learn about the success stories and challenges of the Pikes Peak region — Park, Teller, El Paso and Pueblo counties.

The goal of the forum, held 8:15 a.m. on Monday, June 13, at The Pinery on the Hill by the Economic Development Council of Colorado, is to bring stakeholders together so the EDCC can gain information about local issues and resources in order to improve the state’s economy.

The council is a nonprofit organization that is “dedicated to successful, responsible economic development,” according to its website. “EDCC represents the economic development profession in Colorado and reflects the economic development interests of both the private and public sectors throughout the state.”

The one-day event in Colorado Springs will feature presentations about broadband availability in the area, challenges small businesses face in the community and what the region is doing to train the local workforce in the future.

Representatives from the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments and the Pueblo Area Council of Governments will reveal their six-year transportation improvement plan. Jerry Forte, CEO of Colorado Springs Utilities, will present about the Southern Delivery System and cover important regional relationships needed to support SDS. The day will wrap up with success stories from each county — the City for Champions project in Colorado Springs, the Colorado Training Institute for Public Safety in Fountain and the Regional Tourism Act projects in Pueblo.

The local forum is a way for the council to connect with its membership. Instead of a single spring conference, the one-day forums — held in other parts of the state as well — will cover topics that target regional issues. The goal is to get in front of communities, businesses and local leaders to aid them in supporting economic development, while allowing the region to showcase successful initiatives and provide lessons learned.
