Bar-K, a craft cocktail lounge, is open today at 124 E. Costilla St., according to news from the Downtown Partnership.
Bar-K will serve cocktails, wine and Colorado-made whiskey, bourbon and beer. The bar kicks off with a ribbon cutting this afternoon at 4 p.m. and the grand-opening celebration includes happy-hour pricing during normal business hours Friday and Saturday.
So what is a craft cocktail?
“We make our cocktails by hand with fresh, local ingredients,” said co-owner Ken Binning.
The bar uses only fresh-squeezed juices, muddles sugar cubes by hand and uses egg whites from local-farm-raised chickens in its Gin Fizz cocktails.
“We make our very own blackberry ginger ale and we use our own bacon-infused vodka in our Bloody Marys,” Binning said.
The bar has scheduled rotating food trucks and activities like Geeks Who Drink and karaoke. Live music will play on the lower level. And local bar and restaurant workers get a 10 percent discount every night.
Bar-K joins several other businesses at the south end of downtown, the press release said. Blue Dot Place apartments are less than a block away, and opened in January at 312 S. Nevada Ave. Colony Class plans to open a coffee shop this spring at 408 S. Nevada Ave. Next door to Bar-K is Baby Cotton Bottoms, a store that relocated from the Westside. Mountain Fold Books, B&Co Hair Studio, Art Hardware and Iron Bird Brewing Co. are also new to the neighborhood.
