Developers broke ground on a new project at Constitution Avenue and Marksheffel Road that will be called Claremont Ranch Marketplace.
Scheduled to be completed by 2017, the new shopping center will be anchored by a 123,000 square-foot King Soopers Marketplace, a grocery store that developers say is twice the size of a typical King Soopers design.
“The Pikes Peak region continues to grow, and this development will usher in new retail options for residents in Southeast Colorado Springs,” said Tyler Carlson, principal and leader of Evergreen Development in Denver, the group responsible for the new project.
In addition to the King Soopers, the development will include an additional 15,000 square feet of multi-tenant space designed for multiple uses — retail, service and restaurants. There are also four stand-alone retail pads facing Marksheffel Road for additional tenants, according to Evergreen’s press release.
The company recently signed leases with Pacific Dental, Patriot Liquors and Lux Nails for the project. They also are in talks with regional and national restaurant chains for two of the stand-alone pads.
“As construction starts on Claremont Ranch Marketplace, residents will be able to see our vision to create a retail hub for the burgeoning community in Colorado Springs,” said Laura Ortiz, a managing partner at Evergreen.
Colorado Springs contractor Bryan Construction is the construction contractor for the development.
