For the 40th consecutive year, The Broadmoor received the 2016 Five-Diamond Award for Excellence by the American Automobile Association.
The Broadmoor is the only hotel in the country that has held that distinction every year since the AAA began the rating system in 1979, said Wave Dreher, AAA Colorado spokeswoman.
The AAA system rates hotels “the old-fashioned way,”he said, from one to five diamonds based on trained, professional raters who experience the hotels’ service, amenities, security and other requirements anonymously.
“It’s a very complex procedure [the inspectors] go through. The rating forms are literally pages long,” Dreher said. “It’s everything from how the reservation system worked, how was I greeted as I pulled up to the hotel, what’s the room like, how is it decorated, when you’ve been there for a day, will employees recall your name? They even have a rating for the ice buckets. If you have a really cheap plastic bucket, you’re not going to score five diamonds.”
Of the 28,000 member hotels in North America, only .4 percent receive the Five-Diamond award.
The Broadmoor was one of four hotels in Colorado to receive the Five Diamond Award. The others are The Little Nell in Aspen, The Ritz-Carlton Denver and Four Seasons Hotel Denver.
In Colorado Springs, The Cheyenne Mountain Resort and The Mining Exchange, A Wyndham Grand Hotel & Spa, received the AAA Four Diamond Award.
The association rates its member hotels in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
