Emergency crews responded to a small, privately-owned aircraft that crashed upon take-off from the Colorado Springs Airport at 10:53 a.m. today, Monday, Nov. 9. The number of people in the aircraft has not been confirmed, but there are no survivors, according to a press release sent by the Colorado Springs Airport.
Initial response crews arrived on scene at 10:58 a.m. and found the aircraft on fire and a small grass fire at the north end of runway 35L, adjacent to the southeast corner of Platte Avenue and Powers Boulevard. Colorado Springs Fire Department and Peterson Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting combined efforts extinguished the fire by 11:18 a.m.
The crash is under investigation, and further details will be available pending the findings of the National Transportation Safety Board, according to the release.
