Penrose-St. Francis Health Services just received an award as one of the top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation as measured by lowest risk-adjusted mortality or complications, according to Healthgrades, an online company that rates hospitals nationwide.
Penrose was in the top 5 percent for overall orthopedic services for the past four years, for stroke treatments for two years in a row, overall pulmonary services for four years and for general surgery for 2016, according to a press release from the hospital.
Each year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performances at more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 33 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. While hospitals do not pay to be ranked, they must pay to advertise using the HealthGrades logo and brand.
“The pursuit of excellence is relentless at Penrose-St. Francis and the distinction of being placed in the top five percent by Healthgrades is further proof to consumers that we set the standard for world-class health care,” said Margaret Sabin, president and CEO of Penrose-St. Francis Health Services. “Consumers demand improved health outcomes, increased service and convenience, in addition to lower health care costs. As we continue to move upstream to manage health, we will strategize to reduce health care costs, while optimizing health care value, for the communities we serve.”
The hospital’s 5-star rating indicates that Penrose-St. Francis’s clinical outcomes are better than expected when treating the condition or conducting the procedure being evaluated.
