To celebrate the 60th running of the Pikes Peak Ascent & Marathon, the organization has partnered with two iconic Springs’ refreshment businesses to create commemorative treats.
Josh & John’s ice cream created a special flavor, Purple Mountain Majesty, for a delicious sweet treat to refuel athletes “in the most delicious way possible,” according to a news release sent by Madwoman Marketing. The ice cream flavor will be available at both Josh & John’s locations: the flagship store on Pikes Peak next to Kimball’s; and at Pikes Peak Chocolate company in Manitou Springs.
“The flavor is made with a taro base, sometimes called “purple passion,” said John Krakauer, owner of Josh & John’s, “and is flavored with mini black raspberry truffles.” The limited-edition flavor will be featured through Labor Day to coincide with the races.
For runners with more “grown-up” tastes, Red Leg Brewing Company will debut its limited-edition TrALE brew at the Pikes Peak Ascent & Marathon Run Fest Celebration Aug. 13 from 5-8 p.m. at Alamo Plaza at the Pioneers Museum.
“TRale Saison is a classic Belgian style brewed with lemon zest and a yeast strain from the Ardennes region. It is crisp with mild fruitiness and spiciness with a tart, dry finish,” said Todd Baldwin, president and founder of Red Leg Brewing Company. “TRale is a dark golden ale brewed to be light and refreshing, perfect for a post-run summer brew.”
