The Colorado Springs Philharmonic announced Free for Kids, a new initiative making performances available and more accessible to young people and their families, beginning Aug. 15. Made possible in part by the GE Johnson Construction Company, the philharmonic will give free tickets to young people ages 7-17 when accompanied by a regular-price adult ticket (up to two Free for Kids tickets per adult).
“Free for Kids reflects the Philharmonic’s longevity and full commitment to our community, “ said Nathan Newbrough, president and CEO of the philharmonic. “Our concerts offer the sort of experiences that inspire life-long enjoyment of great music, and I can’t wait to see more young faces and families out in the audience.”
Free for Kids launches in tandem with the sale of single tickets for the 2014-15 concert season beginning Aug. 15 and are available for 26 performances across various concert series. Free for Kids tickets can be obtained by phone 719-520-SHOW and in person at the Pikes Peak Center box office at 190 S. Cascade Ave.
“This orchestra has been a huge part of our community for decades. We’re all so lucky to have these gifted musicians right here in Colorado Springs,” said Jim Johnson, president of GE Johnson Construction Company. “The challenge now is to share them with the next generation of listeners. We’re proud to play a part in making that happen.”
Subscribers are also welcomed to participate in Free for Kids, but may be re-seated in order to be accommodated. Free for Kids is one of the new education and community programs being implemented by the philharmonic.
“Free for Kids is an exciting and bold new program,” said Josep Cabellé-Domenech, music director of the philharmonic. “I am proud beyond words for the opportunity to invite young listeners to hear some of the finest talent and musical masterpieces available.”
