465763435Once again, Pikes Peak United Way 2-1-1 operators will provide information this tax season about tax credits and where to obtain free tax preparation through April 14.

Last year in El Paso County, more than $103 million in Earned Income Tax Credit refunds were provided to 47,967 residents–but $100 million remained unclaimed.

Low-to moderate-income families–making $49,000 or less in 2013– could be eligible for EITC from the federal government. For some eligible families, this could be a refund up to $5,000.

• Colorado Springs has six sites where free tax preparation and e-filing are provided to taxpayers making less than $49,000. In many cases refunds are returned in just 10-14 days, according to a United Way news release.

To find out if you qualify for the EITC, free tax preparation, or other tax credits benefiting low- to moderate- wage earners,  call 2-1-1 or 719-955-0742, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pikes Peak United Way’s service–which includes scheduling tax preparation appointments and answering questions– is free, confidential and bilingual.
