Thanksgiving is mere weeks away – and the Marian House still needs turkeys.
The soup kitchen, operated by Catholic Charities, normally provides Thanksgiving dinner food boxes to 500 families. This year, the nonprofit has only received 50 turkeys.
The soup kitchen is also asking for other items for its food boxes: boxes of instant mashed potatoes, canned vegetables, canned pumpkin, pie crusts, boxes or bags of stuffing, Jello and small marshmallows, canned yams, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy and fruit.
The boxes need to be delivered by Monday, Nov. 19, so donations should be delivered by Friday, Nov. 16.
The Marian House serves more than 600 meals most days at the soup kitchen and usually gives uout around 500 food boxes to needy families and food pantries.
Drop donations off at from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the Marian House, 14 W. Bijou Street, on the west end of the building at the dock.
