CSRBA hiring for three positions


The Colorado Springs Regional Business Alliance is hiring.

The economic development group, formerly the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber and EDC, is advertising to fill three positions – two of them from long-time employees exiting the group after a merger between the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Corp.

The group wants to hire a chief defense industry officer to replace Brian Binn, who left the president of military affairs position for a job at the United States Air Force Academy.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree and will “manage the business development, legislative affairs and community outreach as it relates to the defense industry.”  It provides primary support to the Defense Industry Advisory Council and the Aerospace and Defense Industry Cluster Team.

It’s also hiring a vice president of business development to replace Jennifer Taylor, who left the position of vice president of local industry to work for Bryan Construction Co.  That position requires five years’ experience in economic development and lists its primary responsibilities as: “developing, implementing and improving the local industry program.”

And finally, the group is hiring a marketing and communications manager. Julie Boswell, who was the executive vice president for development and communications for the EDC, was promoted to chief operations officer for the combined group. However, Polly Weldon, communications specialist for the Chamber of Commerce, was laid off with three other employees this summer.

That position will answer to the Marketing and Communications Advisory Council to “develop and implement communications strategy.”

The Business Alliance is advertising locally, said CEO Joe Raso, but has also placed advertisements with national groups. He said the response has been good, so far.

“As of Monday, we had about 80 applications,” he said. “We’re sorting through them now, and we’d hope to have people hired by the end of the month – but it just depends on the process.”

Raso said the group was moving forward with its mission, even as it sought to fill empty positions

“Look at what we’re doing,” he said. “We’ve made a very successful lobbying trip to D.C., we’ve created a new brand and new logo; we’re working on ongoing projects with existing industries. We’re active in government affairs, we’re taking positions with issues and we’re interviewing candidates. We’re still working on the core business.”

Still, Raso said he looks forward to being fully staffed.

“There’s no doubt that having these positions on board, with their professional experience added, will be a great thing for the organization,” he said.
