Bob Condron, who directed media operations for the United States Olympic Committee through 15 Olympic Games, is the new media operations manager for the July Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Condron was involved in planning and directing media services for Team USA and U.S. delegation for every Olympic Games since the 1984 games in Los Angeles.

He also served at seven Pan American Games, 11 U.S. Olympic Festivals and countless Olympic Trials, World University Games, World Cups and international championships for the USOC. He retired this spring after 28 years.

“It’s a great opportunity for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb to be able to bring on a talented professional like Bob Condron,” said Megan Leatham, PPIHC director of operations. “With 51 international news organizations coming to Colorado Springs to cover the race, as well as U.S. media and as many as 200 accredited reporters, photographers and broadcasters, we are required to meet their coverage needs in a thorough manner, and Bob can deliver that. He has demonstrated a unique skill unmatched in his profession over the last 28 years.”

For the first time, race organizers are offering round-trip bus transportation to the start line and back, allowing spectators to avoid race day parking challenges. Spectators can board buses at the Colorado Springs World Arena and ride to the start line, with return transportation at the conclusion of the events.

It’s difficult to know the economic impact the race has on the city, race officials have said. Last year, the Crowne Plaza, the host hotel, sold 1,600 room nights the weekend of the race.

This year, race organizers hope to better track the rooms sold and make a more complete economic impact report.

Condron will manage media operations during race week, beginning on July 3, and through the running of the event July 8.
