Grocery store chain Safeway plans to  spend $1.15 million to remodel pharmacies in six of its Colorado Springs stores.

Greely-based Roche Constructors was hired for the jobs, each of which will cost $192,000.

Roche also won the contract to complete a total of  62 Safeway pharmacy remodels in Colorado, South Dakota and Nebraska, said Roche Marketing Coordinator Amanda Waldron.

The stores are located at 840 Village Center Drive, 1121 N. Circle Drive, 1920 S. Nevada Ave., 5060 N. Academy Blvd., 3275 W. Colorado Ave. and 2890 N. Powers Blvd.

Each of the pharmacies will get more rooms and expanded waiting areas.

Pharmacies have increased services and begun offering vaccinations and flu shots in recent years as business competition has heated up.

Safeway Regional Director of Public Affairs Kris Staaf said the grocery chain isn’t ready to discuss plans for the new pharmacy spaces.

The construction project is on a rolling deadline, with  teams finishing one store and then moving on to the next, Waldron said.

The completion date is unknown.
