Jerry Lanser admits it’s a longshot, but he’s heading to Iowa this weekend to run for president.

Lanser says he wants to get people talking about the biggest issues facing the country, including balancing the budget.

The 60-year-old Longmont small business owner has filed papers with the Federal Election Commission to run as a Republican candidate for president.

According to the Longmont Times-Call, Lanser says friends have contributed about $400, enough for gas to Iowa and printing some business cards. He said he also has another $5,000 or $6,000 in pledges.
