Donna Nelson, operations manager for Security Service Federal Credit Union, will be the city’s economic vitality specialist.

“Donna is an ideal person for this job,” said Mayor Steve Bach in a press release. “Her skills range from marketing to mergers to acquisitions to re-engineering operations. Her military service and a business track record that most in corporate America would envy qualify her for this important position.”

Nelson has been with Security Service for nine years, overseeing the business operations at the North Academy branch, including cash operations, member services, sales, personnel management and facility maintenance.

She served as a noncommissioned officer in the Army and is the board chairman of the Urban League of the Pikes Peak Region. She also serves on the board of the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region and was past chairman of the Chamber of Commerce’s Rising Professionals.

Nelson is a 2011 Athena Award nominee and was named a Colorado Springs Business Journal Rising Professional in 2008. She is also a graduate of Leadership Pikes Peak.

Nelson starts at the city tomorrow and will lead the “Spirit of the Springs” initiative.
