In its second year, the U.S. Olympic Committee’s “America Supports Team USA” initiative brought in $4 million in donations.

This year’s promotion, the “Backyard Games” campaign, began May 31 and concluded July 31.  Participants representing more than 5,000 cities upped this year’s average donation level from $29 last year to $31.

The kit includes sport instructions, recipes, kids’ craft projects, Olympic trivia and a bonus download – the U.S. Olympic 5-Ring Challenge, courtesy of 24 Hour Fitness.

One thousand kits were provided to fans during three give-away opportunities.

Credit card giant Visa matched donations made to the USOC between June 21 and July 21 up to the first $500,000. Fans who contributed $20 or more to the Olympic and Paralympic Movement during this campaign received a one-of-a-kind, limited edition Backyard Games t-shirt.
