The Catholic Diocese of Colorado Springs has initiated a new housing program that calls for the construction of multiple parish residential facilities.
St. Mary’s Cathedral in downtown Colorado Springs has already received an addition of housing quarters, and now St. Joseph’s Church at Southgate near the Broadmoor Town Center is undergoing an $850,000 remodel.
Previously, priests were given a stipend for off-campus housing.
The St. Mary’s construction is being handled by Merritt General Contractors. The project is expected to be completed by year end.
Each parish selects its own contractor, and general contractor Sandra Merritt said subcontracts will be available in the next few weeks.
The Colorado Springs Diocese includes 43 parishes and missions in 10 counties.
