Boulder’s city manager has suspended all city-sponsored travel to Arizona because of the state’s tough new immigration law.

City Manager Jane Brautigam said Wednesday the Arizona law is contrary to Boulder’s commitment to diversity and violates Boulder’s “core values.”

The Arizona law requires local and state law enforcement officers to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they’re in the country illegally.

The Boulder City Council asked the city Human Relations Commission on Tuesday to recommend other possible actions, including ways the city does business with Arizona companies.

Boulder is Colorado’s 11th largest city with about 100,000, residents.
