Colorado Springs Airport is one of 50 airports receiving part of a $5.7 million grant.

The city-owned airport will receive $250,000 from the state, to be matched with $330,000 in local money to pay for snow removal equipment.

Gov. Bill Ritter said that the grants came from the aviation discretionary grant program administered by the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Division of Aeronautics.

The grants range from $44,000 to $250,000 and are funded by state aviation fuel tax revenue, and will leverage both local and federal dollars, bringing the total value to $95.67 million for projects at the state’s airport terminals.

The program started in 1992 and receives grant proposals from any Colorado public-use airport. The proposals are evaluated and approved by the Colorado Aeronautical Board.
