United States Air Force Academy officials said today they plan to cover Falcon Field, the Academy’s baseball field, completely with turf.

Previously only the infield had been covered with artificial turf, but now both the infield and outfield will sport the faux grass.

The new turf is being manufactured and installation is expected to begin later this month.

Falcons Head Baseball Coach Mike Hutcheon said the biggest benefit to adding the turf is that it will allow play and practice in any weather.

Falcon Field is considered to be one of the most unique college baseball facilities in the nation because of its altitutde – 7,000+ feet over sea level and set against the Rampart Range of the Rocky Mountains.
