Doug Habgood’s first sports management boss was Jack Nicklaus.
He must have done all right under Nicklaus, because he’s now a championship director for the 2008 U.S. Senior Open. He’s responsible for managing the multi-million dollar budget for the event.
As a member of Bruno Event Team, headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., Habgood also oversaw the 2005 U.S. Women’s Open in Denver.
His responsibilities included obtaining sponsors, developing strategic relationships and overseeing volunteers for both events.
In addition, he’s managed several other smaller golf tournaments: Mercury Titleholders Championship, the Ethicon Endo-Surgery Pink Ribbon LPGA Pro-Am, the Naples LPGA Memorial and the Royal Caribbean Classic.
He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
