The Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Colorado Springs Economic Development Corp. have decided not to merge.

The announcement came today after several months of discussion about the matter.

While the two organizations have some overlapping goals, representatives said they decided against a merger in order to stay committed to their respective missions.

The chamber works to represent local businesses while the EDC works to attract outside businesses to the city.

However, Vic Andrews, chairman of the board for the Chamber said the talks have strengthened communication between the two entities and renewed an understanding of each other’s objectives.

  1. This is good news and very important, as the EDC continues to push for incentives to help recruit firms to relocate to the Springs. Such incentives have to be funded, which means local businesses fund incentives that may even bring competitors to town and give them a financial advantage.
