Job fair for Katrina evacuees
The Pikes Peak Workforce Center and the Pikes Peak Support Alliance are hosting a job fair for people displaced by Hurricane Katrina and others seeking work in the Pikes Peak region from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 25 at the workforce center’s main office, 2306 E. Pikes Peak Ave.
Job seekers should register at www.ppwfc.org by clicking on job seekers, and then clicking on hiring events and job fairs.
The following companies are planning to attend the job fair to interview and accept applications: Pizza Hut, Manpower, Premiere Global Services, The Broadmoor, Advantage Logistics, City of Colorado Springs, Clear Channel Communications, Bank of America, Xanthus Higher Education, Schwan’s Home Delivery, Champion Cleaners, Add Staff and Staffing Solutions.
Department of Revenue offering sales tax classes
The Colorado Department of Revenue is offering free training seminars about state sales tax issues.
The classes are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 27 at 1881 Pierce St., Room 110 in Lakewood and 2:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at 4420 Austin Bluffs Parkway in Colorado Springs.
Participants will learn about sales tax licenses, how to collect sales tax, distinguishing sales and use tax and available electronic services.
Training materials are provided and no pre-registration is necessary.

Start Your Own Business SCORE workshops for 2006
SCORE, Service Corps of Retired Executives, has announced the schedule for its free workshop, “Should You Start Your Own Business,” for the first half of 2006. All workshops are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and registration is not necessary.

Snow shoe, winter photography clinic on tap
The Catamount Institute and REI are presenting the Snow Shoe Essentials and Winter Photography Clinic from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Jan. 26 at the REI store, 1376 E. Woodmen Road.
Participants will learn the basics of snow shoeing and gear selection, as well as how to take nature photographs during the winter months.
A snow shoe hike and photo safari/winter ecology outing are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Catamount Institute’s mountain campus.

State offering wage withholding class
The Department of Revenue is offering a free training seminar about wage withholding tax from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 17 at 1881 Pierce St., Room 110, in Lakewood.
The seminar will include information about federal and state wage withholding regulations, forms instruction, Department of Labor requirements and unemployment insurance issues.
Training materials are provided and continuing professional education credits are available. Space is limited and reservations are required via e-mail.
