Just one day after assuming control of the U.S. Northern Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command, Admiral Timothy Keating and his wife Wandalee were honored at a reception for friends Nov. 6 at the Garden of the Gods Club.
The picture perfect day allowed guests to dine on the outdoor patio of the private club at the luncheon hosted by A.J. and Sunny Scribante of Aspen and Sanibel, Fla. Admiral Keating took a moment to take in the magnificent view of Pikes Peak and the Garden of the Gods.
With a handshake, Admiral Keating presented the Scribantes with two coins, one from NORAD and the other from the Northern Command.
At the change-of-command ceremony Nov. 5 at Peterson Air Force Base (where both commands are housed), Admiral Keating became the first Admiral to lead NORAD in its history. Admiral Keating succeeds Gen. Ralph “Ed” Eberhart, who is retiring and moving to the Washington, D.C., area.
Canadian Lt. General Rick Findley, deputy commander of NORAD, and his wife, Carla, were on hand as well as Navy Capt. (ret) Craig Weideman of Pensacola, Fla.; Brig. Gen (ret) Steve Ritchie; Maj.Gen (ret) Larry Fortner; and Vice Admiral (ret) David Frost.
Some of the other guests welcoming the Keatings to Colorado Springs were Connie Solomon; Dr. Fred and Carmen Speirs; Mike and Suzanne Perini; Marshie and Ray Purl; Dr. Larry Norfleet and Mara Purl Norfleet; ABC Bank President Mike Cafasso; Republican Party Chairman Ted Halaby of Denver; U.S. Space Foundation President and CEO Elliott and Cynthia Pulham; Dr. Russ Paravecchio of Seattle, Wash.; and Mary Beth and Wes Naye.
