CSYP Business Networking Night
Going back to an old favorite.....
CSYP Social @ Oscar's Oyster Bar
333 S. Tejon St.
August 28th, 6pm-8pm
Cost: FREE!
Oscar's Oyster bar is the type of place you'd expect to face the crashing surf on some small beach in the Gulf of Mexico. The food is amazing, their oysters considered better than anywhere else in town (some say Colorado even).....and considering they go through in a week what two other well known venues do downtown TOGETHER go through in a month.....well you'll just have to try them for yourself.
While you are there we recommend you add a dollar bill to their ceiling....a little known fact is that they count every dollar on their birthday and give that amount to a local children's charity. Rumor has it there is over $7000 on that ceiling now!
Bonus: Their outdoor covered patio allows you to enjoy the summer air.....even if it's raining. This simple place with exceptional food is sure to impress even the top VIP.

2007 marked the twentieth anniversary of Six Sigma. The program grew out of a process improvement effort between Motorola and Unisys. It has evolved to become a major force the set of tools a company or individual may use to improve business performance. Roughly 50% of Fortune 500 companies and over 80% of Fortune 100 companies have active Six Sigma programs. It is increasingly used in service (non manufacturing) environments to improve processes and business performance. The Air Force has AFSO 21, which has Six Sigma as a key component. Most other DoD entities have similar programs aimed at improving operational performance. Whether an operation is actively involved in implementing Six Sigma or not, the philosophy of managing by fact, using proven tools and following an agreed upon discipline is very useful.
This fast paced, four day seminar gives students an understanding of Six Sigma, what it is and what it is not.
The Green Belt is intended for students who are interested in becoming Six Sigma practitioners at a work group or departmental level. The full range of the work processes • DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) are covered in this course. All the tools a Green Belt is expected to know will be covered in this course.
Lean principles are taught and integrated with Six Sigma as part of the overall toolset which is used to accomplish focused business process improvement.
Additionally we will cover key aspects of the development and implementation of a Six Sigma program. This is key in determining success in the ultimate use of the methodology,
This class will provide an excellent opportunity to learn the Six Sigma methodology and how you can put it into practice in your daily work and your career, whether your are involved in an active implementation or not. The learning objectives for the course are to:
· Understand the benefits and implications of the Six Sigma methodology and its significance in the business environment
· Be able to communicate and understand Six Sigma language and terms
· Use the Six Sigma rating to evaluate the capability of a process or organization
· Understand the use and critical factors within the DMAIC process
· Recognize organizational critical success factors in implementing and maintaining a Six Sigma implementation
· Understand and apply basic Six Sigma tools such as process flow charting, value stream mapping, SIPOC, Pareto Chart, Histogram, Trend Chart, Fishbone Diagram, 5 Whys, FMEA, Statistical Process Control, Design of Experiments and others.
At the end of the class you will be prepared to take an on-line test administered by a leading provider of Six Sigma Training, Quality America, Inc. Upon passing this test you will receive a Green Belt Certificate from Quality America.

Southern Colorado Economic Forum
The largest business forum in Southern Colorado. University of Colorado - Colorado Springs' economists will be present their economic forecasts. Break out sessions with CLE for realtors will take place after the morning presentations.
Proposed themes are:
1. Colorado Tax Policy. A conversation with the Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry (CASI) and may be able to get a representative to speak at the forum. There is a great deal of interest in Colorado's tax policy and the implications of tax policy for the future of Colorado. What conflicts do we have in our constitution? Should state policy change? How will it change? How should it change in order to promote long-term economic development? These are all questions that deserve some discussion.
2. How do we create Public-Private Partnerships in Colorado Springs?
Denver seems to have developed a model that works effectively to get things done. Even our neighbor to the south, Pueblo has been effective in forming public-private partnerships. Colorado Springs is less effective in forming the partnerships necessary to improve the economic climate in the region. What can be done? What should be done to improve this situation?
