Pikes Peak Chocolate and Ice Cream in Manitou Springs opened its second shop earlier this month in downtown Colorado Springs.
Owner, Laura Thomason, opened the first store five years ago.
“She was looking to open another location,” said Rose Rozell, the store manager at Colorado Springs location. “With Manitou being so small, she didn’t want to compete with herself.”
The new shop is at 125 ½ N. Tejon St., where Mt. Tejon and Tillie and Toad were previously located. The building was a great location, Rozell said. They didn’t have to do much to it other than add a little paint and their coolers.
They will be bringing handmade and hand-dipped chocolates from their location in Manitou Springs, Rosell said. They also serve vintage candies and sodas and Josh and Johns Icecream.
They felt it was a good location, close to Acacia Park and the Uncle Wilber Fountain.
Rosell said business has started slowly, but they haven’t done much marketing yet and the summer crowds haven’t come down yet. The store is open seven days a week, but Rosell saidthey might close on slower days, like Mondays when several nearby shops are closed.
